Maria’s Resaurant Picks in Waikiki

Breakfast:

The Pancakes. Hands down, no questions asked.

No trip to Oahu is complete without spending a day basking in the sun over at Kailua Beach Park. Kailua (and Lanikai Beach) are consistently ranked among the top beaches not only in Hawaii, but in the nation! Give Windward Water Sports a call ahead of time to book your Kayaks and Stand Up Paddles, or sign up for one of their incredible Kite Boarding Lessons. But before you head to your water adventure, you MUST stop at Boot’s & Kimos to fuel up for the day. Note: there will probably be a line…and for good reason. While the entire menu is delicious, the macadamia pancakes are what keep the crowds coming. You WILL want to sneak into the kitchen and sneak a bottle out.

Lunch:

A toss up between the grilled chicken or the ahi plate (with wasabi mayo). For dessert, the Diamond Head Torte (you have to taste it to believe it!)

Once a cute hole in the wall, but now a growing attraction, Diamond Head Grill is still the best place to stop for quick, but tasty lunch-on-the-go. They offer a delicious grill menu that offers some slightly unexpected options, including an outstanding chutney to go along with their grilled chicken. If you are in a rush to get going on your adventure for the day, stop inside for their gourmet sandwiches and to-die-for desserts. Seriously, do not miss the deserts.

Diamond Head Market and Grill is also open for breakfast, and has an infamous blueberry and cream cheese scone. Perfect for breakfast on the go as you head up Diamond Head. You can get your mouth watering by visiting their website HERE

Dinner

Finding it hard to settle on one thing, she splits the baked Macaroni & Cheese (With Parmesan Cheese, toasted bread crumbs, mushrooms, and Ham) and the Grilled Maui Cattle Co Flat Iron Steak.

Another spot just outside of Waikiki in what appears to be the sleepy town of Kaimuki, sits another local favorite. Be careful, you may even miss the door to 12th Ave Grill, tucked just back from the street. While not “local Hawaiian” flavors, 12th Ave Grill is cozy (both in menu and ambiance). Comfort foods such as Wellington Pie, out of the world Mac & Cheese, and Pork Chops leave you feeling all warm and fuzzy inside. And then you remember “Hey! I’m in Hawaii!”, and you finally realize that we are a part of the great US of A.

Lais’s Resaurant Picks in Waikiki

Breakfast:

Belgian Waffle with Nutella and Banana and a non-fat cappuccino.

Skip the over-crowded, and mediocre “Eggs-n-Things” in Waikiki. Bogarts on Monsarrat, which is just a mile outside of Waikiki is the real money spot. Voted the best breakfast bagel on Oahu, don’t be surprised to find a line out the door every weekend filled with locals and tourists waiting for their turn to order. Bagels aren’t the only mouth watering option available, huge fluffy pancakes with Haupia Sauce, fried rice, omelets, and healthy options abound.

Kakaako Kitchen has the distinct reputation of being Honolulu’s “Gourmet Plate Lunch” haven. Each local favorite is carefully re-invented into a wonderful flavor explosion (often with less grease and fat so that your bikini still looks good on you). Quick service, great prices, and awesome nightly specials make this a great budget friendly stop during your busy day of beaching, shopping, and sight-seeing.

Where to start, where to start? Personally, I eat once a week at Maharani. The spices must have some addictive quality, because no matter how hard I try, I just can’t stay away. Although not officially my pick if you crave curry, tandori, and spice, you should consider adding it to your itinerary. However, hands down the Go-To dinner place for an incredible, delicious, and mostly local/organic meal is hands down a little place called TOWN. It’s just about 5 minutes outside of Waikiki, which means that it is fairly priced, and a favorite of local residents. TOWN prides itself in finding the the shortest, simplest way between the earth, the hands and the mouth. The menu is based around whatever is fresh, seasonal, and delicious. Not to mention they have an incredible mixologist, who never ceases to come up with innovative and potent concoctions to go along with your meal.

They have a sample menu online HERE but don’t make your choices before you go…you just don’t know what they may have on hand!

In keeping with the beautiful ambiance, head over to Mariposa for a Hawaiian Chic lunch overlooking all of Ala Moana Beach Park and the Waikiki Yacht club. Odd Location. Best food in Hawaii! Located on the 3rd floor of an office building outside of Waikiki, Alan Wong’s leaves a bit to be desired in terms of Hawaiian Ambiance, but lacks nothing in quality of food. World renowned chef Alan Wong has his flagship Restaurant here in Honolulu, and never disappoints. With too many awards to count, Alan Wong’s is consistently one of the top restaurants on the island, and THE best place for that special evening.
