President Obama’s favorite vacation spot is found in none other than his home state of Hawaii. Every year Obama and his family return to a Kailua Beach in Oahu to enjoy the white sand beaches, Hawaiian sunsets and get in some quality rest and relaxation. They have rented a couple of homes over the years but remain tied to Paradise Point, an exclusive gated community on a lush, green stretch of land that extends out over the ocean. While staying at Paradise Point the president spends quality time with his daughters, Sasha and Malia and his wife Michelle, plays golf, and works out at the nearby Marine Corps Base.
From 2008 to 2010 the family rented out “Plantation Estate” a 5,000 square-foot oceanfront home, built for security, elegance and comfort and convenient steps from the white sand beach. Additionally, this estate is nearby to the Marine Corps Base on Kaneohe Bay, which is home to nearly 10,000 Marines, sailors and civilian employees.
In 2011 the family chose to upgrade and rented out a similar home, but with an additional 1,000 square feet as well as an inner court yard and lawn leading down to the beach. Security was also stepped out which has made it difficult to pinpoint exactly where the home is, but reports suggest it is not far from the previous estate in the same Paradise Point community where properties cost roughly $25,000 a week. The family pays for renting the estate out of their personal funds, but overall their vacation costs taxpayers roughly $7 million because of the extra security needed for the family to travel and stay in Hawaii.
